Leo's Soul Talk shall be my first post in 2010 after a long absence of FFU. Hittin' hard on the sax-organ tip Soul Talk features Kenny Burrell on guitar, Gloria Coleman on organ and Frank Dunlop on drums for a soulful session. Leo Wright is heard on alto and flute in a quite bluesy mood yet playing smooth and relaxed over some heavy rhythms of his fellows. Gloria Coleman plays a creaky organ with a nice flow and some unexpected accents here and there. Not least Kenny Burrel is putting some classy solos into the mash sounding a bit harder than usual brillantly adapting the blues theme. The compositions are simple and straight-forward without being boring or dull, that's what makes it stand-out from other similar combo sessions and gives it a modern feel.
Released on Atlantic's Vortex label in 1970 these tunes still deliver some upright funkiness and certainly haven't lost any of its appeal after 40 years.
Listen to a soulful conversation on a 320k vinyl rip.
P.S.: If I get my scanner to work again on Windows 7 you will get the original cover art from my copy... hopefully.
Thank for this and glad to see you back!
